ÉLUES launches our annual family literacy campaign

All students at École Lacombe Upper Elementary School have a new book in their hands, as the annual Family Literacy Program kicked off Feb. 24. The program launched with a school assembly, giving each student a copy of Word of Mouse, written by James Patterson and Joe Sutphin, and that featured guest readers, including Mayor Grant Creasey and ÉLUES alumni Dylan Gagnon, daughter of Lacombe Ford owner, Darren Gagnon. The guest readers read the first few chapters to students, but through the program students will take the book home and the challenge is to read aloud with their family.  The entire focus of the program is to encourage families to read together.

The program is made possible through many amazing community sponsors, including Lacombe Ford, which purchases the books; as well as the Lacombe Kinsmen, Lacombe FCSS, City of Lacombe, Lacombe Legion and Sunny 94 that all make possible author and illustrator visits, the kickoff party, treats and celebration around reading.
